He described the brutal transportation process which killed most of those brought into Treblinka. During the interview, which Suchomel did not know was being filmed, the SS soldier revealed in great detail the means necessary for killing thousands and the huge efforts that went into disposing of the bodies. At one point Suchomel revealed that 12,000-15,000 Jews would be murdered per day when Treblinka was working at full capacity. Towards the end of the camps existence, Commandant Franz Wirth decided that rather than gassing or shooting the remaining prisoners, they should be starved to death.]]> Mon, 21 Mar 2011 11:59:57 GMT http://jewishcommunitybitola.mk/video/viewvideo/24/jews-and-holocaust-in-macedonia/interview-ss-guard-describes-treblinka-murders.html <![CDATA[The Nazis: The Road to Treblinka 2 of 5]]> This is the fifth volume in a six-part series entitled The Nazis: A Warning From History. Kurt Franz was born in 1914 in Düsseldorf. His father was a merchant and he also had a sister. After attending the elementary school in Düsseldorf for 12 years, he worked as a cook for the restaurant "Hirschquelle" before he gave his final exam. He enlisted in the German army in 1935 and eventually entered service in the SS. He was sent into the Buchenwald concentration camp before being transferred in 1939 of the Action T4 'euthanasia' project. In late 1941 or early 1942 he was sent to the Belzec death camp. Later he assumed the post of deputy commandant at the Treblinka camp under Franz Stangl. Stangl later suggested that he was frightened of Franz. Franz was known for his unusual amount of cruelty and sadism. Franz had a dog Barry which had originally belonged to Stangl. The dog was a Saint Bernard which is usually a very friendly breed. This dog however had a mixture of another breed which may have been the cause for its violence. The dog was trained to bite the genitalia of the prisoners under the command 'Man get that Dog'. However once out of Franz's possession the dog behaved normally and died in 1948 in the care of a doctor in Ostrów Mazowiecki.. During the revolt in Treblinka on 2 August 1943, Franz was visiting a lady friend in Kosów Lacki and was too drunk to do anything about the escape. He was also drunk when arrested in 1959 when these photographs were found by the police. In 1965 he was sentenced to life. During his imprisonment he complained that he got a life sentence whilst others got off and was very bitter that he had not been released for his wife's funeral in 1992. He was released in 1993 for health reasons. Kurt Franz died in Wuppertal in June 1998. Franz along with Wagner from Sobibór and their superior Christian Wirth are amongst the most cruel sadists of the war. My channel is one of the most prolific from Poland, although not amongst the most visited. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced around 1,000 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating! There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- http://www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers. Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine! Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film! In 1997 I founded Polish Business News http://www.pbn.com.pl .There are a number of business related films here and I intend to do many more on CRM (customer relations management). My blog can be found via http://www.ceepackaging.com and http://www.pbn.com.pl and contains background information and more details of many of my films. Concentration in color matarial is rare (the footage of the camps is shot by US forces), I guess you can guess for yourself why (Nazi's didn't want to show the camps to the people.) The concentration camps and some color pictures are shown at the end of the video in the last 4-5 minutes. Before you'll see the concentration camps you'll see the ghettos and other public crimes against the Jews. The raise of Nazi Germany meant the starting of the so called 'final solution' or 'entlösung' in the German language. I personally think that this is the worst crime of Nazi Germany and their allies. Death camps were hidden from the normal people since they would never agree with such a innocent killing of woman, man and children. The Nazi's had so much power that they could kill a specified group of people without any problems. But don't just blame the Nazi leaders! The fact why so many Jews and others could be killed is not only the fault of the Nazi leaders. Not Adolf Hitler nor Heinrich Himmler killed a single Jew but thanks to 'normal' people Jews ended up in concentration camps. People followed hate against a certain group and that led to one of the greatest mass killings in history. I'm strongly against the Holocaust and I think that many innocent people have been killed! There is no reason on earth why you would kill man, woman and children for a so called crime against 'Arian people'. I believe that then and now most of the Jews were and are just normal and nice persons. I never had any problem with a Jew in person. Alright, there are Jews like our Amsterdam mayor who is Jewish and very weak and I would like to see him on another function. But this Jew would have problems in Israel too since he drinks tea with Muslims after Muslim youth committed numerous crimes in our beautiful city Amsterdam. Well enough about this. All I want to say is that I can't and do not believe that Jews are so bad that we need to kill them all. It's however interesting though how people can become murderess like many SS camp man were, lot's of them killed children for example and I find it interesting how a human can turn into a monster like that. I think that the Nazi culture has something to do with it. I also want to remind people that we have like three ways to think about the Holocaust; 1 - It happened and we should remember it and we are sorry for the Jews. 2 - it never happened or not on that scale. (I must warn you that the denying of the Holocaust is a felony in most European countries so watch your words.) I personally think that people who say that there was no Holocaust are or very stupid or they don't want to know since they like the Nazi way of thinking and they don't want to believe something like that has happened. They don't want to point the Nazi leaders out as bad people. Truth be told, if the Nazi's wouldn't have held an Holocaust then they would have had more supporters now I guess. People underestimate the power of the Nazi's if they think that this couldn't happen! 3 - The people who think that the Holocaust was a blessing and who are glad that the Jews and other so called 'untermenschen' are dead. I know that certain Nazi groups in the USA support this kind of thinking and that probably some people in the middle east will agree on this. Don't forget that I will vote for the PVV (Dutch right wing party) and they are pro Jewish and so am I, I support Israel and I hope that all Jews can live there in peace with the Palestinian people. I dont support a Jewish Netherlands or something of course! But dont forget, especially for the Dutch viewers that Himmler was very pleased with the Netherlands. He was so pleased because 102.000 Dutch Jews are killed out of 140.000 and thats a very high percentage!! It has something to do with the registration thing here in the Netherlands (all people were named with probably also their race). And by the way, my great-grandmother also helped a Jewish boy surviving the war by letting him stay in her house during the war. I think that that was the right thing to do. BTW, 38.000 Jews survived but some of them came out of an concentration camp and others survived by the help of Dutch people or the resistance. I call the Jews here Dutch-Jews, most of them came here since the 16th century to work and live in places like Amsterdam. They are not really 100% Dutch (who is pure Dutch anyway, a pure Dutchman is becoming rare thanks to the extreme left government but thats another story!) in my opinion since they are immigrants but they worked hard so they disserve the respect of our nation. It is also a response to Bulgarian rednecks and Holocaust deniers who try to whitewash Bulgarian Nazis by denying Bulgaria's active role in the Final Solution and the extermination of the Macedonian Jews. Bulgarian anti-Semitism and the Bulgarian genocide of the Macedonian Jews is well documented. What is not as thoroughly understood are the causes and events that drove the Bulgarian state to such madness and unspeakable acts of cruelty leading to crimes against humanity. For this to be thoroughly understood we need to dissect the ideas that underpinned Bulgarian Nazism during WWII. The roots of such Bulgarian Nazi ideas precede the Second World War. In 1878 the Bulgarian state was created out of the ashes of the war between Tsarist Russia and the Ottoman Empire. The Congress of Berlin, which was a meeting of all the major European players in 1878, endorsed the Treaty of Berlin that sanctioned the existence of new contemporary entities - Bulgaria, Rumelia and Macedonia. These entites were to each have their own degrees of self-government under Ottoman tutelage. Bulgaria achieved autonomy, Rumelia was quasi-autonomous and Macedonia gained minimal self-governance that was subsequently not implemented. Bulgaria regarded the Treaty of Berlin as a stab in the back, a betrayal of the desire to create a greater Bulgaria that included people and lands that were not Bulgarian. Bulgaria's resentment of the Treaty of Berlin, and later the Macedonian state and people, was founded on the desire to implement the Treaty of San Stefano which preceded the Treaty of Berlin. The Russian Count Ignatiev was the architect of the Treaty of San Stefano which was essentially an ambit claim that was never expected to make it off the drawing board in light of Russian admissions that not all the people within "San Stefano Bulgaria" were Bulgarian. This did not prevent Bulgarian nationalists from seizing upon the notion of San Stefano Bulgaria as some sort of Magna Carta of the Bulgarian state. Achieving a Greater Bulgaria or San Stefano Bulgaria became the national Bulgarian ideal - the strive to enlarge Bulgaria by incorporating non-Bulgarian lands and people, by whatever means necessary including brute force and genocide. Just as Hitler regarded Tacitus' definition of Germania as the basis for expanding the Third Reich, so did the Bulgarian Tsar Boris look to San Stefano Bulgaria as the promised land of the Bulgarian people. As events of WWII later showed, Tsar Boris set out to achieve San Stefano Bulgaria in the same way Hitler expanded the Third Reich - warmongering and genocide. Bulgarian Nazis felt that non-Bulgarians were a danger and a menace to the stability of the newly enlarged Bulgarian state. Bulgarian Nazis deployed terror and genocide against non-Bulgarians with the intention of creating an ethnically "pure Bulgarian Empire." Bulgarian Nazis regarded an ethnically pure Bulgaria as an insurance policy against subsequent attempts to challenge San Stefano Bulgaria with another "Treaty of Berlin" that might present itself at a later time. As such it was not just Macedonians, Greeks or Serbs who were a threat to sustaining San Stefano Bulgaria. The Jews were also regarded as an obstacle by Bulgarian Nazis. The Bulgarian Government enacted anti-Semitic laws that were followed by the Bulgarian deportation and murder of the Macedonian Jews. The Bulgarian government even paid substantial monies to the Third Reich for the extermination of the Macedonian and Bulgarian Jews. The Bulgarian Jews were saved by an act of God, so to speak. Through dumb luck the Bulgarian Jews were spared from extermination as the result of a delay in the deportation trains. The Macedonian Jews were not so lucky. The Macedonian Jews were often dragged kicking and screaming by Bulgarian Nazis who helped themselves to the valuables and assets of the Holocaust victims. The Bulgarian Government still refuses to apologise and offer restitution to Macedonia and Israel over the Bulgarian genocide of the Macedonian Jews. After Bulgaria's defeat in WWII the Bulgarian communists seized upon the activism of Bulgaria's equivalent of Oskar Schindler - Dimitar Peshev - and certain members of the Bulgarian clergy, with the intent of forging the memory of Bulgaria as the saviour of the Jews. This documentary video was produced in 2006 on the occasion of the remembrance of the Bulgarian deportation of the Macedonian Jews from the town of Bitola on 11 March 1943. Through interviews with Holocaust survivors from Bitola and friends of Holocaust victims we are reminded of the horrors of the Bulgarian Nazi regime that savagely deported more than 3200 Bitola Jews to the death camps at Treblinka where they were exterminated. You will notice that the memories of the Macedonian Jewish Holocaust survivors in this video differ greatly from the official historical account of the Holocaust that is promoted and sanctioned by the Bulgarian state today. The Bulgarian state fancies itself now as the saviour of the Bulgarian Jews despite recent evidence emerging that the Nazi Bulgarian Government of WWII conspired to and failed at exterminating the 50000 Bulgarian Jews. And while many Bulgarians have been successfully duped into buying the tall tales of universal Bulgarian opposition to the Holocaust, the memories of the Macedonian Jews tell a different story that is drastically at odds with the Bulgarian version of events. Contrary to Bulgarian historiography, the Macedonian Jews from Bitola do not remember the Bulgarian Nazis as gallant protectors of the Jewish people during this terrifying ordeal. Nor do the Bitola Jews remember the Bulgarian Nazis to be hesitantly implementing the deportation of the Macedonian Jews, as Bulgarian historians claim. The Macedonian Jews interviewed in this piece remember the Bulgarian Nazis as willing participants in the Holocaust and brutal administrators of Hitler's Final Solution. The Holocaust survivors from Bitola speak of Macedonian locals who, at great risk, concealed Bitola Jews from Bulgarian Nazis and their agents who were prepared to dob in Macedonian Jews in the name of Bulgarian anti-Semitism. <![CDATA[Deportation and murder of Macedonian Jews by Bulgarian Nazis in Bulgarian-occupied Macedonia]]>

This is an authentic video that illustrates another chapter in one of the most horrific tragedies of the 20th century - the Holocaust. This video is old archival footage which Bulgaria does not want you to see. It is a silent black-and-white video that shows the deportation of the Macedonian Jews to the death camps of Treblinka by Bulgarian Nazis during World War II. There is plenty of WWII documentary footage that has been uploaded by Bulgarians on Youtube. Most of that video footage has been prepared by Bulgaria's equivalents of Leni Riefenstahl. The intention of such video footage in its day was to bolster the war effort and determination of the Nazis to the point of implementing the Final Solution and the Holocaust. Often such footage depicts the Nazis as "liberators" of the lands that they conquer. To date Bulgarian archives have made available much Riefenstahl-ish documentary footage that was intended to depict Bulgarian Nazis as liberators of Macedonia. Much of that audio-visual material has been uploaded on Youtube by Bulgarians who hope to persuade the public that Bulgarian Nazis were loved and adored during WWII in the lands that Bulgarians conquered. This video shows us the other side of the Bulgarian Nazi regime. It is the darker, evil face of Bulgarian Nazism. After the First World War, Bulgaria officially renounced all claims to Macedonia. Consequently the invasion of Macedonia by Nazi Bulgaria during WWII was illegal. Bulgaria had no business in Macedonia after the Treaty of Versailles. Consequently Bulgaria is liable for all crimes against humanity committed by Bulgarian Nazis in Macedonia. This includes the deportation and murder of Macedonian Jews by Bulgarian Nazis. Nazism swept Bulgaria in the 1930s with the Bulgarian Government formally aligning herself to the Axis Powers. Many Bulgarians argue that Bulgaria was not really a Nazi country but was merely following Hitler's orders when it deported the Macedonian Jews to their imminent deaths. Even if there was any truth to the above Bulgarian plea, it has been accepted by international scholarship on this topic that the argument of "we were just following orders" does not wash. Such was the basis of the judgments against the Nazis who were tried at Nuremberg, and such should be the case with the Bulgarian Nazis who literally got away with murder thanks to Bulgaria's subsequent sanctuary within the Stalinist bloc. In any case the "orders" to deport the Jews from Macedonia certainly did nothing to discourage the Bulgarians from confiscating the wealth of their Jewish victims. Other Bulgarians intimate that Bulgaria is not accountable for the murder of over 7000 Macedonian Jews as Bulgaria offset this crime with the salvation of 48000 Bulgarian Jews. That argument does not hold water. You cannot deny justice to over 7000 people by attempting to mitigate it with a different Bulgarian policy elsewhere. That Bulgaria willingly implemented Hitler's Final Solution is a documented fact. Bulgarian intrigues to blame it all on Hitler after he lost the war is a cunning attempt at blame shifting. To achieve an operation on the massive scale of the Holocaust the German Nazis required support from other Nazi nations. Bulgaria was one such nation. On 24 December 1940 the Bulgarian Parliament enacted the Law for Preservation of the Nation. This law was equivalent to the Nuremberg Laws of the Third Reich and deprived the Jews from civil rights. Later the Bulgarian Government established the Commissariat for Jewish Affairs as the executive body regarding the Jews in Bulgaria. According to a government decision in March 1943 the Jews from the "New annexed territories" were deported by Bulgarian authorities to the Nazi death camps. Bulgaria deported over 7000 Macedonian Jews from the Vardar Macedonian district. Bulgarian Nazis also confiscated the valuables and wealth of the Macedonian Jews. Bulgaria actually benefited from WWII in terms of wealth and territory acquired. Bulgarian Nazis were anti-Semitic to the bitter end. On September 8 1944 the Soviet Union declared war on Bulgaria. As the Soviet army entered Sofia On September 16 the Bulgarian Prime Minister Aleksandar Tsankov made a radio announcement stating that "The fight for the liberation of Bulgaria from the Jewish-Bolshevik yoke is in secure hands. The Bulgarian National government calls on fight against the oppressors of our fatherland." Tsankov fled to Argentina after WWII which at the time was a haven for many Nazis on the lam. Bulgaria has still not apologised to the surviving Macedonian Jews, to Macedonia, or to Israel for Bulgaria's murder of over 7000 Macedonian Jews. Bulgaria has not paid appropriate compensation to its victims for Bulgaria's participation in the Holocaust and implementation of the Final Solution.
